The game NEEDS force balancing with players on both sides being of as close lvl and player quantity as possible. They have the audacity to MAKE you wait to lose! What the game needs is for the game to force start no matter what in the lobby even if a ship captain swaps out of his position. Plus since for a game to start the players must hit "ready" you cant start a game with just captains and just play because If a high level player doesn't have at least 3/4 on board they usually wont hit start. AND they'll make you sit in a damn lobby, taking forever to hit the ready button. And if you even dare to say its because they have a full crew and you dont they'll just shut you down with a 'get good'. And if you ask for them to share their crew they'll say something like "ITs JuST CAsuAl." But if you play calmly, they'll blame you for the loss. Meaning its always mid lvl players with AI crew. High lvl players will stack onto a single ship of other high level friends. If it was just the game I'd say its great, but the game is as much the VERY small player base as it is the game itself. PC Gamer as great of a publication that it is played this game in a very early form or Flight of the Icarus, the game has for well over 2 years supported in game voice chat, and it shows, VERY few games will show off such team play as this one does. The game is constantly having new content added, maps, ships, guns, character class abilities etc. THE BIG problem here on metacritic is this game is being mixed up with the original single player game (Gun of Icarus NOW known as Flight Of The Icarus), which was a poor broken game. I bought it on a whim for 5 dollars on a steam sale a year ago and it has been a regular in my rotation.
